Comparatively Speaking

Set scene: You're driving along, minding your own business, being a good citizen and going 5 MPH over the speed limit...

Then, out of nowhere, another car pulls up next to you. Or worse, behind you! All of a sudden, you feel yourself pushing on the gas pedal! You inch up a couple MPH... Then maybe a couple more...

You would never even think of changing lanes, just to let this tailgater pass! No. You'd rather keep up with the Joneses and hope they turn before a cop catches you speeding!

Why do we do this?? I even do it at the gym! I'm on my treadmill, minding my own business, going 3.0 MPH, trying hard not to sing along with my mp3 player.

Then, crap!, the girl next to me starts going 3.2 MPH! I can do that! Then she goes 3.4... Then 3.6... Then before I know it, I fly off the back of the treadmill, because my poor legs just can't keep up with the Joneses!

Okay, I've never actually flown off the back of the treadmill... But, boy, my legs are glad for $50 treadmills from Craiglist!!

Am I the only one that does this???

***P.S. Thanks for letting me be part of this blog!!***

Wow! Didn't realize you had such a competitive nature.
I am not competitive. If I have a tailgater -totally depending on my mood- I'll either just change lanes OR let them get all angry and worry about passing me themselves.
